Green Connections Open House Oct 3

October 3, 2012

Check out the map of ‘Green Connections’ across SF!

You’re invited to attend a ‘Green Connections’ open house to view a draft map and a design toolkit. The map identifies a network of over 140 miles of ‘green connectors’ – special streets and paths linking pedestrians, cyclists and wildlife to parks and other open spaces throughout the city. The design toolkit focuses on ways these streets could be designed to support active transportation, enhance urban ecology and promote stewardship and placemaking.

The final draft of the map includes a network of 25 unique routes that would be improved over time. The name for each route includes a geographic reference and a target native species associated with the route – Marina Green to Dolores Park: West Coast Painted Lady, China Beach to Bay: Pygmy Nuthatch  and Presidio to Bay: Monarch.

WHAT:            Planning Department releases city draft map of ‘green connectors’

WHEN:            Wednesday, October 3rd 2012
                       5:30 – 7:30 p.m. drop-in

WHERE:         LGBT Community Center, Rainbow Room
                      1800 Market Street, San Francisco

Green Connections will increase pedestrian and bicycle access to parks, open space and the waterfront, by re-envisioning City streets and paths as ‘green connectors’that can be built over time.In the first year of the project, the focus will be to map a citywide network. The second year will build on this framework to design green connections in the following six neighborhoods: Bayview-Hunters Point, Chinatown, Potrero Hill, Tenderloin, Visitacion Valley and Western Addition.

The venerable fifth district of San Francisco is electing a Supervisor this November. The Wigg Party (The Wiggle bicycle advocacy group) is hosting a debate to find out where the candidates stand on all the issues we care about: biking, local food, and all things related to sustainability and resilience.

Please join us on the evening of Wednesday September 12th at the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts to learn more about where each candidate stands on these critical issues.

The gathering will begin at 6:45. The actual debate will take place from 7:15-8:45.

This debate will help determine the endorsements that the Wigg Party makes for the fall, and is the second in a series of three co-produced by the D5 Democratic Club, the Wigg Party and the D5 Neighborhood Action Committee.

We hope you will join us to help shape the future of our district and our city!
